The Weekend Gratitude

Note: The Gratitudes will be appearing most likely on a weekly / twice-weekly basis to make room in my schedule to deliver new and different content.

April 12, 2008.  In case you noticed, this Easter weekend I’ve been in Philadelphia and updating my DailyG status via twitter (1, 2).  Here is some more in-depth analyses of things I dug this weekend:

Honestly, I’m done with underwire bras and have been for some time.  Luckily (or perhaps unluckily depending on if you see the cup as half empty or half full, haha), I have never needed a capital B Bra for support.  As such, I’ve said Thanks But No Thanks to unnecessarily rigid, industrially constructed undergarments.  My go-to to date has been the Gap Wireless T-Shirt Bra ($20.95 Sale now, kids).  The sexxxiness of this bra, however, is debatable.

So in December, I was introduced to the Bralette by Hanky Panky’s winter sample sale, where I dug a purple one out of the $10 bargain bins.  It has proved so comfortable, I wear it every chance I get.  That and of course, this is the closest approximation to wearing a bikini top you get with an everyday undergarment.

So when I found myself needing a change of clothes post-impromptu Philly gym session, I impulse bought this second AA bralette in pink to add to my collection.  I sense more bralette purchases in the future.  Unfortunately, some of the more formal garments will have to be kept for those places that are, um, not receptive to me being cold.  Haha.

  • Sunday Brunch with the to-be-eponymous Tim Gunatilaka.

TG and I began friends in 2000, I believe in large part due to my ability to cartwheel consecutively.  Throughout undergrad, he was a fellow English major / cultural studies aficionado whose opinion I cherished immensely and - surprise! flattered! -  he liked the way I wrote.  This past year he was shortlisted as a quarterfinalist for the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting for ‘Capricorn’ that he will soon do the honor of letting me read.  I shared with him my two current book ideas (I neglected to mention two of my short story ones).  Whenever we catch up, I feel we are young, invincible, and we can shake the literary world.  Here’s to the follow-through.

  • Train ride home.

Yes, NJTransit is $8.50 more expensive than the Boltbus but I like the scenery and lack of traffic on a long holiday weekend.
