THE ‘DAILY’ GRATITUDE: Memorial Day Weekend 2009 Edition
It’s been a while hasn’t it? Here we go:
- CD + JS Boston Wedding. I was so, so happy to have attended CD + JS’ wedding this weekend. Caro was absolutely stunning, words cannot describe her contagiously huge smile and emanating glow. It was such a privilege to watch her relationship with J grow - from our days together in college, on-campus, sophomore year, to the grown up world of NYC postgraduation, and till today (one word: HONEYMOON!). I could not have imagined two bigger sweethearts who deserve the world of each other. And OH YES, they throw a good party. (Overheard from the parental contingency on our school bus back to the hotel: careful, you are scaring the twenty-year-olds!) I could not have imagined a better way to have spent my first weekend free from cubicle nation.
- Car Ride Home with BFFs LBK and RH. I was also unbelievably happy I got to spend my Memorial Day getting maximum bonding time with my favorite girls. Held hostage in a car with me as the iPod DJ, we caught up on our recent adventures and where the future would soon be taking us (tentatively: Philly, China, and Costa Rica). It’s amazing what friendships last - I know these will be two of them. And if they don’t like it? Too bad, I am like glue! What, did they not get the memo?
- Impulse Trip to Target! TRACY FEITH! About an hour outside the city, I confessed to LBK that I wanted to go to Target - where perhaps I could still find my coveted dual pattern strapless dress. (Note: I did look for it online last Sunday to find the smallest size a 9. Research today proved I am a 3 / 5). RH admitted she had the same request for different reasons. Once driver LBK consented, we were relentless - It’s Memorial Day Weekend! There will be too many shoppers! I panicked. I even ran out of the car before it was parked out of joy and well, competition. I proceeded to grab everything remotely my size in their sparse Feith display - my dress sadly absent - tried the items on and came away with … a Champion sports top and yoga pants. While infinitely less playful, these purchases are perhaps better suited for my next endeavors. That said, the thrill of the chase and the good humor, patience my friends displayed were awesome. (Overheard: I have never seen Nancy so happy before. - I know. She’s scaring me.)
- $5 Alexis Bittar Bangle (originally priced at $400). Respect the stoop sale is alli’msayin’.
- The Reality of It All is sinking in. I’m loving the ‘Congratulations’ I’m getting as the first automatic response from people to whom I tell I’ve quit my job. The support has been lovely and amazing even though parties are in denial of my permanet New York departure. They are starting to make persuasive cases for me to return and well, never say never, I suppose…
I hope your Memorial Day Weekend was equally Memorable. Besos, N
